03/17/2008: Libertarians Mourn Passing of Libertarian Activist. The Libertarian Party of Florida (LPF) is sad to hear of the passing of Mike Meroney. Mike was 63 years old and passed away at his Florida home on Saturday, March 15, 2008. Mike served on the Libertarian Party Executive Committee as a regional representative and also was past chairman of the Libertarian Party of Duval County.

02/15/2008: The Department of Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff announced the final plans for the Real ID Act, which included at two-year delay. States now have till 2011 to become compliant with the new regulations that have gone largely unfunded by Congress, leaving the states responsible for the bill. However, all but a handful of states are mounting protests. Joining the 17 states that have already balked at the program, 20 more have passed legislation protesting the program in at least one chamber of their legislature.

The Libertarian Party of Florida has been working diligently to get its state government to join with the many other states that will not be instituting the federal mandates.

So far, the states that are refusing to the Real ID Act include Arkansas, Colorado, Georgia, Hawaii, Idaho, Illinois, Maine, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, North Dakota, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee and Washington.

4/05/2007: Libertarians Support Safe Voting.  The Libertarian Party of Florida (LPF) has officially endorsed the Florida Voters Coalition effort for verified voting systems [position paper attached]. The LPF suggests the Florida legislature immediately enforce all reforms found in the Florida Voters Coalition's position paper.

04/05/2007: Automatic Restoration of Rights A Must.  The Libertarian Party of Florida (LPF) has come out in support of Governor Crist's plan of automatic restoration of an individual's civil rights who view the measure as long overdue.

03/18/2007: Libertarian Party of Florida Elects Karl Dickey as New Chairman.
The Libertarian Party of Florida held its annual convention in Orlando, Florida today and elected Karl Dickey its new chairman for the next four years. Mr. Dickey ran for State Senate in District 30 this past November against Democrat Ted Deutch and received 12.3% of the vote. Other offices that were filled were for Vice-Chair, Secretary and At-Large positions which were filled by Vicki Kirkland, and Bill Van Allen.
